Progesterone Suppositories Side Effects are the exactly the same for Topical Natural Progesterone. Topical Progesterone and Progesterone suppositories may both be used for Restless Leg Syndrome treatment. This assumes that the progesterone used for Progesterone Suppositories is bioidentical to natural progesterone.
Again Progesterone Suppositories used in the vagina or rectum as well as oral progesterone has 10 times less potency than topical Natural Progesterone. Oral Natural Progesterone is 90% first pass inactivated by the liver. And blood flow from the rectum and vagina is drained by the portal vein. The portal vein drains directly into the liver. Thus, Progesterone Suppositories will also be first pass 90% inactivated by the liver.
30% to 40% of women that use Natural Progesterone for Restless Leg Syndrome will have temporarily have bad side effects because they did NOT cut out xenoestrogens and phytoestrogens in their life.
Check any Natural Progesterone forum. Many of the women will think that Natural Progesterone is the best thing since sliced bread. However, about 30-40% of the women will say that Natural Progesterone is the worst thing that happened to them. These bad side effects occur only because these women did NOT get rid of xenoestrogens and phytoestrogens in their life. IF these 30-40% of women with temporary bad side effects got rid of the xenoestrogens and phytoestrogens, they would NOT have the bad side effects. Again these progesterone suppositories will have these same side effects.
These temporary bad side effects will stop 1-2 days AFTER stoppping the Natural Progesterone.
Where are most of these phytoestrogens and xenoestrogens coming from? They are coming from things that touch the skin including lotions, shampoos, laundry detergent, and soaps. Even supposedly expensive healthy products from the health food store will contain significant xenoestrogen and phytoestrogen loads.
Why? The manufacturers of these healthy and non-healthy products do NOT know about hormone disruption.
This is because whatever you put in the mouth is first pass 90% metabolized by the liver. Only 10% of what you put in the mouth reaches the body. However, anything you put on the skin, is 100% absorbed. Progesterone suppositories are also 90% first pass inactivated by the liver since the vagina and rectum are drained by the portal vein. The portal vein goes directly to the liver.
Thus, whatever you put on the skin has 10 times the potency of the oral dose and progesterone suppositories applied by rectum or vagina.
For instance a 20 mg/day topical dose of Natural Progesterone is equivalent to a 200 mg/day oral dose or 200 mg/day Progesterone Suppositories rectally or vaginally. If you do cut out xenoestrogens and phytoestrogens (Womens Therapeutic Institute has a list of estrogen offenders(click here!)), then the success rate for Restless Leg Syndrome jumps up to 90% or greater.
Some patients take topical Natural Progesterone just before bedtime and find it makes them sleep well and have a good nights sleep. Some patients take Natural Progesterone just to sleep well.
Rash
Rash or itchiness is an allergic reaction to the cream or oil used to dissolve the progesterone. An allergy to Natural Progesterone is possible; I have seen 2 patients out of 7000 patients have an allergy to Natural Progesterone. In contrast, an allergy to the cream/oil base is 1 out of 300 patients.
Temporary Shortness of breath
If shortness of breath occurs wash the Natural Progesterone off the skin. The shortness of breath usually gets better immediately. Try less Natural Progesterone the next day. Usually, this side effect does NOT return.
Temporary Mental Confusion
I have heard of rare mental confusion anecdotally in women taking large amounts of topical progesterone for a long time that cleared after 2-3 months of abstaining from Natural Progesterone.
Since 1999, in over 7000 patients using 20-60 mg/day of Topical Natural Progesterone, I have not had one patient complain about Mental Confusion.
Bad Natural Progesterone Side Effects only occur, if the patient does NOT cut out xenoestrogens (foreign chemical estrogens) and phytoestrogens (plant estrogens) from her life. This is the most common cause of failure for the patient taking progesterone.
If Fertility Medical Doctors (test tube babies) routinely use Natural Progesterone to prevent 1st Trimester Miscarriage, then Natural Progesterone should be relatively safe for use in patients for Restless Leg Syndrome. Natural Progesterone is safe to use in pregnant women and unborn babies. Make sure to consult your health care practitioner if you use progesterone if you are pregnant or think you are pregnant
Dear Sir,
I don't know if you remember me - but I called you several years ago complaining of Restless Leg Syndrome. You listened and responded that you thought it was caused by the toiletries that I put on the skin. So I simplified my lifestyle getting rid of the "junk" that I put on my skin, AND my Restless Leg Syndrome was gone! Now, I bike cross country.
Thank you.
